Kayaking the South Coast

Our region, Eurobodalla is a kayaking heaven with four major river systems, 20 lakes, 83 beaches and many islands along 130 kilometres of marine park coastline. The region is renowned for its rich sea, bird and wild life and the mild winters make it easy to enjoy paddling all year round.

We are fortunate that one of the most pristine ecosystems in NSW, Durras Lake is located less than a minute drive from our holiday park.

Our friends at Bay & Beyond Kayaking are located just opposite Durras Lake and offer kayak hire and guided tours of Durras Lake and Batemans Bay waterways. Fishing

Whether you fish out of a boat, kayak, off the beach / rocks or wade the shallows there are plenty of opportunities to "wet a line" at South Durrras and in the waterways surrounding Batemans Bay.

There are some regions of the Batemans Marine Park that are sanctuary zones, where fishing is prohibited. Look out for the yellow sanctuary zone markers. A copy of the Marine Park Plan can be picked up from Reception or downloaded from http://www.mpa.nsw.gov.au/bmp.html
Anglers also need to have a valid Recreational Fishing Licence in NSW. These can be purchased from the local tacklestores in the main street of Batemans Bay (left off the Bridge as you enter BBay) or online at http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/licence-fee

The Durras Lake boat ramp is located off Lakeside Drive. It is also a popular spot for the kids have a fish while Mum has a rest and Dad supervises. The main channel of Durras Lake is narrow. Either side of the channel the water depth becomes very shallow. These shallow areas on the edges of the weed beds are ideal for targeting Sand Whiting and Bream on surface lures, such as poppers. Dusky Flathead also rule the edges of the channel and weed beds. Garfish, Mullet & Tailor are also in the Durras Lake system.
